Marble Construction Firm History

In March of 2010, the principal owner of R&M Engineering-Ketchikan, started a general construction company called Marble Construction with the goal to provide vertically integrated services from design through construction and project management services located under one roof in Southeast Alaska. In June of 2010, Chet Thompson was hired to become Marble Construction’s project manager. Marble Construction was immediately successful in bidding projects, design-building projects and constructing force account projects. Since May of 2010 nearly $16 million in projects have been completed. These projects include a 70’x140’ metal building in Ward Cove, complete reconstruction of the City of Klawock owned Head Start, completion of the Klawock Drive Down ramp, completion of phases one and two of the Ketchikan Alaska Marine Lines terminal remodel, remodel of the Cold Bay Regional Airport, replacement of the Winstanley Island Cabin for the US Forest Service, Installing Wood heat boilers for the Coffman Cove School for the Southeast Island School District, , a Galvanized 92’ Roof Structure for Ketchikan Dock Company at Berth IV in Ketchikan as well as several smaller residential projects in Ketchikan.

Marble Construction excels in design build applications due to the engineering background of the ownership. Our recent design build projects include the Borough wide bus shelters, Saxman Seaport roof replacement, Craig False Island Ice House expansion, a project with Trident Seafoods on a 36,000 SF Freezer Plant Trident Ketchikan Processing Facility, and many others. We are just starting the Saxman Village Public Safety Officer Duplex which is also a design build contract.

Marble Construction’s early success is largely based on a long history of successful projects in Southeast Alaska that have fostered strong relationships with State and Local Governments, community leaders and business owners, and an unparalleled understanding of living and working throughout Southeast Alaska. The ability to draw resources from multiple companies to get the projects completed allows tremendous efficiency that translates into savings to owners.

Marble Construction is the perfect fit for nearly all projects due to the diversity of its owner, but we believe that the local history of the owner and employees is its true worth. Marble Construction’s sister company, Tongass Forest Enterprises, provides Marble with the unique ability work with heavy Timber from harvest, milling, kiln drying, and even custom molding all performed in TFE’s Ketchikan manufacturing facility.
